Water Relief Vaults

The Global Food Exchange™ recognizes that safe drinking water is an essential item following any disaster. It is our goal to provide all forms of clean water solutions to those in need.  A Water Relief Vault or WRV is an ISO shipping container specially designed to house a 100,000 gallon per day (gpd) high-tech Industrial Reverse Osmosis System (IROS) with integrated diesel generator sets, and containerized desalination systems.  These systems come with trained operators, and are available through a monthly lease program.

Our systems consist of complete desalination systems built inside intermodal shipping containers. They are suitable for permanent installations on feed waters containing more than 10,000 ppm of dissolved solids. The units are designed for cost-effective shipment and installation, long-term dependability, and superior energy efficiency.

Design parameters:

  • Microfiltration: Flux rate of 35 GFD (allows for 4 of 16 elements to be out of service at any time for air scouring)
  • Activated Carbon Empty Bed Contact Time: 5-6 minutes
  • Reverse Osmosis: Average flux rate of 10 to 12 GFD depending upon feed water salinity
  • Overall System Recovery: 50% to 95% depending upon feed water salinity
  • Water Quality: The table below lists the anticipated analytical values for treated product from the proposed system when operating on a typical seawater. Actual performance will vary depending upon operating conditions.

System operating data:

  • System Operating Data Minimum Inlet Feed Pressure: 6 ft suction lift
  • Minimum Available Feed Flow Rate: 115 gpm
  • Maximum Feed Temperature: 105 Deg F
  • Nominal Product Flow Rate: 80,000 to 150,00 gallons per day depending upon feed water quality
  • Electrical Requirement: 460 VAC, 3 Phase, 60 Hz, 100 Amps
  • Power Consumption: < 3.5 kWh/m3 when treating seawater
  • Generator Fuel Consumption: 10.5 gallons per hour

Container - Complete system is built inside seaworthy “one trip” intermodal dry freight shipping container. Container is equipped with a valid CSC plate.

  • Container dimensions 40’ long x 8’ wide x 8’6” ft tall.
  • Laminated wooden floor with waterproof coating and floor drains.
  • Raised fiberglass walkway over piping and conduit.
  • Interior lighting.
  • Insulated walls and ceiling with ventilation fans, air inlet louvers, and electric heater.
  • Main electrical disconnect with branch circuit protection.
  • Feed, permeate, reject, and electrical connections on outside of container.

Controls and Instrumentation - The system is monitored and controlled by a PLC based control system interfaced with the sensors described below. The control system is programmed for ease of operation along with necessary data logging and data processing to monitor on-going system performance. The system may be monitored remotely during periods when operators may not be present on site. The

Additional features:

  • All systems built inside 40 ft container with doors on each end (allows access to genset),
  • Pretreatment systems, automatic backwash control, cartridge filters, and chemical injection,
  • High pressure positive displacement pumps with VFD, FRP RO pressure vessels, and energy recovery device (ERD),
  • Integrated permeate flush/clean-in-place system with flush tank,
  • PLC based control system for automatic operation. Control system includes a complete set of electronic sensors for pressure, flow, and product quality,
  • Integral diesel genset comprised of a Perkins diesel engine and Stamford alternator. Includes exhaust system, cooling system, generator controller, main circuit breaker, and 600 gallon fuel tank,
  • Genset is installed in a separate compartment of the container and is accessed by the second set of doors on the opposite end of the container.
